Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan Goes To US For Medical Treatment

Thiruvananthapuram, KERALA Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan left Sunday for the US for medical treatment, said people familiar with the matter.

He will be treated at Mayo Clinic and is expected to return in three weeks, they said.

He was supposed to have left for the US on Monday.

During his absence, Industries Minister EP Jayarajan will receive donations towards the Chief Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund at the Chief Minister’s office here, a press release said.

Vijayan, 73, had called on Governor P Sathasivam on Saturday to brief him about his trip abroad for treatment.

The chief minister had also updated the governor about the steps initiated by the government for rebuilding Kerala and for rehabilitation of people affected by floods.

Vijayan was originally scheduled to go for treatment on 19 August and return by mid-September.

He postponed the trip due to the unexpected floods that ravaged the state and claimed more than 400 lives.
