The Supreme Court on Friday deferred the hearing on Article 35A of the Indian Constitution till January, ANI reported.
Article 35A accords special rights and privileges to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
The Jammu and Kashmir government and the Modi government have urged the Supreme Court to postpone the hearing against Article 35A, citing security problems ahead of of local body elections scheduled for later this year.
“All the security agencies are engaged in the preparation of the local body elections in the state.” Attorney General KK Venugopal, appearing for the Centre, told the SC. “Let local body elections finish in a peaceful manner,” he said, ANI reported.
The Supreme Court today said that it will hear the matter after the Panchayat polls in the Jammu and Kashmir have concluded in December, 2018.
